Rosy's scrawlings on Scared Sh*tless
This book was given to my husband for Christmas but, as usual, I snapped it up before he did (he watches stories more than reads them). The reason I chose this one to start over the two other books I received was because I was in Christmas recovery mode. I wasn't quite up for a full-bodied text so this was a place to start. Scared Sh*tless was chosen as the facts are written in small blocks, about 3-5 a page. It is quick and easy to read and full of amusing and scary facts.
The topics range from murderers, diseases, celebrities, the environment, animals, plastic surgery and sex. Many of the facts are disturbing for one reason or another and therein often lies the amusement. There are the occasional comments thrown in by the author, often snide or sarcastic, and while they do grate a little they don't get in the way. The facts are also fairly U.S. centric at times.
Scared Sh*tless doesn't really scare you shitless but certain sections can leave you worried or thankful you haven't been doing that. Case in point: please go see a dentist regularly... Also, waxing is a bit more dangerous than you'd probably thought. Same goes for stress, even for the unborn. It is rather alarming how many celebrities get away with, or nearly so, killing people. Often not just a single person. There's even a worrying number of murderers into eating people, which apparently can be convincingly give out as pork.

I''d recommend this book to: lovers of trivia, useful facts and quick non-fiction reads on various topics.
